Upward Soccer 2010

By · Comments (0)

Another sports season has come and gone in the Griffin home.  Way to go Emily on a great great season of hard work.  Our team, the Cheetahs (not cheaters!) had a ball together and everyone worked so hard to have a fun time at games and practices.

Kudos to all the leaders who make Upward at our church a success!  Check out the sports ministry at 146recreation.com.  And if you’d like a confirmation on the power, fun, and encouragement that Upward Sports is to a family, take it from me as a parent and as a coach, it’s a blast.

As a minister this gives a great opportunity to connect with families in the community, and to be able to share clearly about our hope in Jesus Christ.  As leader development, an experience like coaching 8 energetic 1st graders can also help refine clarity in communication, teamwork, patience, getting back up after bumps and bruises, and the like!

Thanks Emily and Cheetahs for an awesome season!

Accountability for Men

By · Comments (0)

As a pastor, individual, dad, friend, perhaps you are looking for a resource to help you with personal integrity and accountability, and/or resources to share with others. Men’s ministry is an interesting animal, and there are many different angles and approaches. So any time I come across something that could be a new tool for your ministry toolbox I want to pass that along.

At a recent men’s Rewired retreat at Falls Creek OK, I heard a testimony from a leader of a new organization in our area of OKC that specializes in a unique ministry area for men.

The name of the ministry is Men Living Up. Check out their site, but also be aware of a specific time for training at a workshop designed to help you strengthen men in their daily walk and in their relationships.

Check out the details here: Men Living Up Workshop

Be blessed today!

Not too long ago we bought my wife a camera, a Sony a300 DSLR.  It has been a ball getting to know how to use this awesome toy.  I am clueless still in how to use this tool to the best of its ability.  But, I am having a blast figuring it out!  Thanks honey for sharing “your” camera!  In ministry, I have already found some cool ways to use it, particularly on a recent retreat to Falls Creek, OK, and ministry trip to NYC.  But more than that, it has been a fun creative experience for me.  Pictures coming in a future post!

Here are some tips from a novice that I wish I knew at the beginning:

1.  Turn it off of automatic.  Find your way to manual on the dial.

2.  Turn off the flash as much as possible.

3.  Use the ISO for your benefit in low light.  Less light, higher ISO.  By the way, 1600 gets grainy.

4.  Now find the light meter on the display or in the viewfinder.  Adjust the exposure wheel in front of the clicker to dial up or down the exposure to +1 (or so).  The longer the exposure, the blurrier any movement will be.

5.  Have fun, and take a lot of pictures (the beauty of the delete function!)

6.  If you happen to crack the display, and you do not desire to go broke, check out the a300 display replacement video on YouTube.

Get out there and have fun!
