Ministry is serious business. Crises happen frequently involving members’ health, life and death issues, and relationship stressors and strains. The workings of the church and Kingdom are also things that involve seriousness. In the midst of the reality of the depths of ministry, we must find ways to also come up for air so to speak. When do you laugh?
I enjoy a good, no great laugh. I plunge in the depths of seriousness, but I also enjoy the heights of humor. In the past some of my favorites have run the gamut from Jerry Lewis, Don Knotts, Tim Conway, and the Stooges, to Chevy Chase, Dana Carvey, Martin Short, and Jim Carrey.
Recently, I have gotten some huge laughs from guys you can trust to keep their comedy clean…Tim Hawkins and Taylor Mason.
Check these guys out, and laugh a little!
Who makes you laugh out loud?
The classics with Chevy Chase – Fletch, Spies Like Us and Three Amigos.
But ultimately I think you can take yourself too seriously and have a meltdown. So a regular dose of The Office is a must for me.
- Michael Scott
P.S. – Ray Griffin is my personal comedian though.
I’m on board with Ray on the Tim Conway and Don Knotts angle. Andy Griffith episodes will never get old and I love Conway on Carol Burnett. I think I was born a generation too late.
I’m on board with Cory on anything Chevy- except maybe Funny Farm. I’m starting to watch old Office episodes on Hulu.
I’ll throw in Seinfeld and recommend Brad Stine as a hilarious Christian comedian.
All that being said I think I’ll take Ashley up to Mount Pilot to get some dinner and ice cream. Meeting Ange, Barn and maybe even Gomer.
